How to Use the GTO Preflop Range Charts

These charts show Game Theory Optimal (GTO) starting hand selections for 9-max No-Limit Hold'em. Use them as a baseline for your preflop decisions.

  1. Select your seat position around the table (UTG through BB).
  2. Choose the action scenario: Open Raise, vs 2-Bet, or vs 3-Bet.
  3. Read the 13×13 grid — green = raise, blue = call, yellow = mixed, gray = fold.
  4. Pairs run along the diagonal, suited hands above, offsuit hands below.
  5. Use the stats panel to see what percentage of hands are played from that spot.

Understanding GTO Preflop Strategy

What Is GTO?

Game Theory Optimal strategy is a mathematically balanced approach that cannot be exploited. It provides a baseline for solid preflop play.

Position Matters

Players in later positions (CO, BTN) can profitably open wider ranges because they act last postflop, giving them an informational advantage.

Suited vs Offsuit

Suited hands have roughly 3-4% more equity than their offsuit counterparts, which is why suited connectors appear in opening ranges but offsuit versions often don't.

Adjusting Ranges

GTO ranges are a starting point. Against weak opponents who fold too much, you can widen your range. Against aggressive players, tighten up.

FAQ

Are these ranges accurate for live poker?

These charts approximate GTO solutions for 9-max NL Hold'em. In live games, you can often profitably deviate from GTO by exploiting opponent tendencies.

Should I follow these ranges exactly?

Use them as a baseline. GTO is a balanced strategy, but exploitative adjustments based on your opponents will often be more profitable.

What do the colors mean?

Green means raise, blue means call, yellow/amber means a mixed strategy (sometimes raise, sometimes call), and gray means fold.

Why does the Button have such a wide range?

The Button is the most profitable position because you act last on every postflop street. This positional advantage lets you play more hands profitably.

These charts are approximations of GTO strategy for educational purposes. They are not generated from a real-time solver. Use them as a study reference, not as definitive strategy.
